Christmas in Coronado
Christmas trees line Orange Avenue, Candy Cane Lane is aglow, and homes are adorned yet again with twinkling lights and inflatable friends from the North Pole – the most wonderful time of the year has returned to Coronado! And you don’t need to look far for holiday festivities.
Bundle up! Ice skating by the sea at the iconic Hotel Del Coronado is back from November 17th 2022 through January 1st 2023. Tickets can be purchased and reserved online, with military and first responder discounts available on certain days. Feeling hungry? Reserve your spot at the Frostbite Lounge! The Frostbite Lounge offers comfortable seating at the skating rink next to warm fire pits, complete with festive drinks and bites to eat.
Ice skating not your thing? No worries, Hotel Del Coronado is filled with holiday fun for everyone. Take a stroll to the pine trees in the Founder’s Lawn for an unforgettable light show; you won’t want to miss this and best of all, it’s completely free and open to the public! From 5-9pm nightly, thousands of individually controlled lights stringed onto the 140 foot pine trees are synched to music specially composed for the light show. Lay under the trees for an amazing view! Great activity for all ages.
If you’re feeling a little chilly after the light show, head inside for some more holiday cheer and check out the spectacular 23 foot tall Christmas tree in the lobby. Beautifully lighted and decorated with hundreds of ornaments, this makes the perfect backdrop for some holiday themed photos. But the decorations don’t stop there- Christmas trees of all sizes are displayed throughout the property so take your time to spot them all! One of my personal favorites is an outdoor christmas “tree” made entirely of poinsettias which you can find right next to the fountain.
Coronado has something for everyone- those seeking an indoor festive performance will love Kerry Mead’s adaptation of A Christmas Carol, which you can see at Coronado’s historic Lamb’s Players Theatre right on Orange Avenue. Running from December 1st 2022, through December 24th, 2022, the 90 minute performance is the perfect addition to your Christmas celebrations and is recommended by the Lamb’s Players Theatre for ages seven and up. Buy your tickets online through the Lamb’s Players Theatre website or in person at the box office.
And of course, the holidays aren’t complete without admiring some Christmas decorations! Lights of all colors, animatronics, and inflatables help set the festive tone throughout Coronado. One of the best ways to see all of the lights on the island is in your own golf cart! Ride the Lights lets you zip around town, take pictures, and enjoy the Christmas spirit after our usual business hours from 5:00pm-7:30pm; don’t forget to make a playlist of everybody’s favorite Christmas songs to play while riding around town!
