Scenic San Diego: Where To Find The Best Views In Town

TORREY PINES

Locals know that the views from Torrey Pines Gliderport are unarguably some of the best in San Diego. The Pacific meets Torrey Pine’s 350-foot cliffside where gliders embark on their flight over the California Coast. Head on over to glide or take in the views!
And you can’t talk about Torrey Pines without mention of the State Reserve.

Multiple hiking trails of varying difficulty allow everyone to enjoy the gorgeous nature of Torrey Pines. The “Beach Trail” takes you on a descent of 300 feet to a staircase that leads down to the beach. If you’re up for an adventure, “Broken Hill Trail” is the longest trail at the state reserve, running about 1.3 miles.

SUNSET CLIFFS

Located in Point Loma, Sunset Cliffs is the spot for those quintessential San Diego sunset views and a must-visit on any SD itinerary. Apart from the stunning views offered here, the 68 acre natural park is also home to rugged cliffs, sea caves, arches, and tide pools. You’ll probably spot some surfers here too!

There are a few different ways to enjoy the natural beauty of Sunset Cliffs. Coast along the cliffside on windy Sunset Boulevard, walk among the cliffs, hang out on the beach, or park and watch the sunset being painted right before you. As you might imagine, Sunset Cliffs gets busy at sunset time. Make sure you give yourself enough time to find parking before you explore!

CABRILLO NATIONAL MONUMENT

“Cabrillo National Monument was dedicated on October 14, 1913 in order to commemorate the 1542 landing of the first European expedition to explore the west coast of the United States, led by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo…”- (National Park Service).

Located in Point Loma, Cabrillo National Monument overlooks the ocean and has stunning city-wide views. Visit between January and February and you might even spot some whales at the whale overlook! Anemones, elusive octopus, and other sea creatures can be found in the tide pools during low tide.

CORONADO FERRY LANDING

Calming water views mirroring the infamous San Diego skyline earns the Coronado Ferry Landing a spot on this list. Centennial Park is one place to enjoy this view, or you can walk on down to the docking/pier area for the ferry. A pedestrian path with this view that begins at the Ferry Landing and wraps around the back of the Marriot makes for a scenic stroll as well! Another way to enjoy this view up close is by hopping on the ferry.

KATE SESSIONS PARK

a large green field with trees in the backgroundMarvel at these amazing views with a visit to Kate Sessions Park, a San Diego favorite nestled in the neighborhoods of Pacific Beach/La Jolla. The grassy hill overlooking Mission Bay and the Downtown area makes for an ideal spot for picnics, outdoor games, grilling, or just relaxing.
 

La Jolla COVE

La Jolla Cove, one of the most highly acclaimed beaches in San Diego, holds that title for a good reason. Besides the stunning scenery, there’s plenty of unique wildlife to be spotted year-round.

You’ll definitely notice the seals and sea lions hanging out around the cove (do not approach the seals and sea lions!), but a kayak/snorkeling adventure will truly let you be one with the local marine life. Hop into the ocean at La Jolla for chances of spotting leopard sharks, garibaldi fish, dolphins, pelicans, and more!
